NOVARTIS PHARMA GmbH, WO2005/77932, A2, (2005) 2-Methyl-thiazole-4-carboxylic acid ethyl ester (966 mg, 5.64 mmol) is dissolved in 5 mi of diethylether and cooled to-78°C. A 1 M solution of lithium aluminium hydride in THF (16.9 ml, 16.9 mmol) is added dropwise and the mixture is sirred for 3.5h at-78°C. The mixture is quenched at this temperature with a saturated solution of sodium sulphate and is allowed to warm up to room temperature, followed by extraction with ether and evaporation. Yield : 670 mg (92percent). MS (ES I) : 130.0 [M-H]-, 1H-NMR (CDC13) : b (ppm) 7.20 (s, 1H), 5.27 (dd, 1H), 4.50 (d, 2H), 2.62 (s, 3H).
